Ramblings of a Frustrated Vice Principal
Thanksgiving
by John Zinzi on 11/13/10
Yes, Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 25. And our read-thru is set for Sunday, November 28. And while I'll be blessed to be sharing Thanksgiving Day again this year with both my two children (and their spouses) and my three grandchildren I admit that yesterday I kept thinking right passed the 25th straight to the 28th. So kill me!
This morning I put a little note of clarification on out Facebook group page. FB has changed "Groups" significantly since I last set one up a long time ago. (Remember the confusion of "Groups" and "Pages"? Oy!) I set ours up as what they now call a "Secret Group." Sounds rather childish to me and almost sinister. But it simply is a privacy level setting. The page won't show up on search results if someone in Iowa or Germany or anywhere else types in "spelling bee" as a Facebook search. And any posts or other activity on the page won't be visible to anyone who is not a member of the group. So that's what "Secret Group" means. Thought you should know.
Evolution

Well, that didn't take long, did it! The Guestbook element--which I've named "Honey Talk"--is up and running and waiting for entries. As I said, this Bee Stings blog will be my own ramblings; and you're free to comment on these posts as you please. "Honey Talk" doesn't need me at all, although I'm sure I'll be in the fun, too.
This whole website has no plan at all, you see. From the moment I started with the first page I had no idea what it was going to look like or what kinds of things I'd find to add to it. Everything you see here is in freefall. The colors, the placement--nothing is planned out. The site truly evolves and morphs into something even I can't predict. And it's all influenced by who we are as a team and what we're going to do together over the next couple of months. So stay tuned and hang on! ;) JPZ
Friday. Friday?

You may have missed it, but Director Jim posted a comment to this blog's first entry...and he mentioned that it's looking right now like 9:30a Sunday, Nov. 28 will be the read-through. He's waiting to hear from one more person, but it's so far shaping up to be a full cast get together. What a nice way to start off! Again, this isn't yet totally confirmed, but Jim did post it and I'm passing along the info in case you missed it.
I'm going to add a "Guestbook" element to the site which will allow any one of us to make posts directly without having to respond to a blog entry of mine. This blog will serve as my journal--a newsy column of stuff related to the show. The Guestbook will more conversational in nature. Check for it later today. - JPZ
So here's what you do...

Well, this is Bee Stings --thank you, Jim Hartzell, for that name!--and you're invited to comment on any or all of my postings. Be kind, be gentle. And please notice that I avoided the obvious "BEE kind, BEE gentle." I have a feeling that would get old very, very quickly!
As to the subtitle: "Ramblings of a Frustrated Vice Principal." Well, that's my character, anyway. Some of you may know (but I would suspect that most of you don't know) that I'm a retired public school administrator and unlike my character, they actually did make me the principal! Yes, I was the high school principal for four years before taking a job as Director of Technology for the school district--a position I retired from in 2008. And in the words of Douglas Panch, I am truly "in a better place now." Ha!
Director Jim (as I will no doubt will often refer to him) has agreed to provide me the latest information and changes so that I can post them somewhere here on the site. I developed a similar "private website" for PPP's production of Urinetown and it was a lot of fun--for me, at least, if for no one else! If you're interested, you can check it out at www.urinetownppp.homestead.com.
If you have any corrections (have I spelled your name correctly everywhere?) or have any ideas about features you like to see on the site, just let me know. And to leave a comment here, click on "Comments" right below this post. Remember: Your comments will be visible to all! - JPZ
And so we begin...

I will keep a blog on this page to record our journey--through my eyes--from read-through to set strike. Entries may range anywhere from several a day to once every few days, depending on what's happening. Even though everything else on the site may change, there's one thing you can count on: the blog will always be right here on this page. Here we go!! JPZ
